Vectron International Launches New Ultra-Low Jitter Frequency Translators at electronica; Debuts World's Smallest Quartz-Based Offering
New Solutions Deliver Unsurpassed Jitter Performance, While Improving Time-To-Market,
Lowering System Costs and Reducing Space Requirements
MUNICH, GERMANY — Vectron International, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of
Frequency Control, Sensor, and Hybrid Product solutions, announced today the debut of its FX-730,
the world's smallest quartz-based, ultra-low jitter frequency translator, at electronica 2006 in
Munich, Germany. The company also announced the FX-427, a new dual-output, low jitter frequency
translator. The new offerings provide clear advantages over solutions using digital phase-locked
loop (DPLL) technology, including superior jitter performance and improved time to market for
developers of wireline, wireless, military, industrial and test equipment. Vectron will showcase
these new products in Hall B5, booth 237 from November 14-17.
While traditional discrete phase-locked loops (PLLs) require system designers to carefully select
and combine a dozen or more radio frequency (RF), active and passive components, Vectron's highly
integrated FX-730 and FX-427 frequency translators offer a single chip/module solution. By leveraging
analog phase-locked loop (APLL) technology with integrated voltage controlled SAW oscillators (VCSOs),
these new frequency translators can reduce OC-48 clock jitter by up to 130 percent (from 0.30 ps RMS
to 0.13 ps RMS) versus traditional DPLLs.
"Continued advances in high-speed communication and measurement systems require higher levels of
performance from system clocks and references," said Alan Mond, vice president, global sales,
Vectron. "Vectron's new FX-730 and FX-427 frequency translators provide superior noise control
in a simplified system design, reaffirming our commitment to providing our customers with the highest
performance available for their innovative, next-generation applications."
FX-730 Quartz-Based Frequency Translator Offers World's Smallest Footprint

The FX-730's packaging, a 5 x 7.5 x 2 mm hermetic leadless ceramic package, makes it the world's
smallest, quartz-based, ultra-low jitter frequency translator. It is six times smaller than discrete
PLLs and two times smaller than competitive DPLL solutions. The FX-730 leverages an advanced PLL ASIC
and surface acoustic wave (SAW) delay line to deliver best-in-class jitter performance, including a 600
percent improvement in broadband jitter (10 Hz to 40 MHz offset BW from carrier) over silicon DPLLs.
The FX-730 is very well-suited for applications where ultra-low jitter clocks are required, such as in
SONET/SDH line cards, ITU-T G.709 FEC scaling, digital cross connects, IP routers and 10 Gigabit
Ethernet (GbE) access equipment.
FX-427 Provides Dual-Output and Ultra-Low Jitter

Vectron's new FX-427 dual-output, low jitter frequency translator provides system designers with
superior quartz-based, APLL performance in a surface mount package of 13.7 x 20.3 x 5.1 mm. The FX-427
translates an input clock between 8 kHz to 200 MHz into a clean, low-level jitter output frequency
between 500 MHz and 850 MHz. A secondary low jitter output is also available that can be configured
in different amounts such as one quarter, one half, or equal to the frequency of the primary output.
One of the most flexible PPL designs on the market, Vectron's FX-427 offers customers a broad range
of input and output frequencies, while the loop filter bandwidth and voltage controlled crystal
oscillator (VCXO) or voltage controlled SAW oscillator (VCSO) selection can be customized to the
customer's application. This flexibility and ease of use reduces design time and provides the highest
level of performance at an exceptional value.
Both frequency translators are ROHS-compliant, designed for 3.3V operation and offer complimentary
LVPECL or LVDS output configurations. Commercial and industrial temperature ranges are supported.
