Vectron's MEMS-based Oscillator Selected as Product of the Year by Electronic Design
Compact Oscillator, Ideal for Manufactures of Smart Munitions, Projectile Electronics, Missiles, Gun-Hardened and other High-Shock and Vibration Applications
— Vectron International, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of Frequency Control, Sensor, and Hybrid Product solutions, today announced that Vectron's innovative MEMS-based VMEM5Q has been selected as the Best Clock Oscillator for 2008 by Electronic Design magazine.
Electronics Design, the authority on emerging technologies for design solutions, made the selection in its highly anticipated annual "Technologies of the Year" article.

Vectron's VMEM5Q high-shock and vibe clock oscillator, designed to withstand up to 100,000g shock, is based on silicon MEMS technology, offering superior (to 50 ppm) stability over wide temperature ranges (from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius) in a miniature 5 x 3.2 mm QFN package. Applications include Precision Guided Munitions (PGMs), projectile electronics, portable military radios and other electronics as well as industrial communications devices.

The VMEM5Q is currently available from 1 MHz to 130 MHz and offers operation in a -40 to 85 degree Celsius temperature range with 100 ppm and 50 ppm stabilities. The oscillator operates off 3.3V supply and has an enable/disable feature to allow the clock output to be disabled for board testing. The VMEM5Q is housed in a 5 x 3.2 mm QFN package and has passed Vectron's rigorous qualification testing including MIL-PRF-55310. The VMEM5Q has been qualified, approved and is in use by a Fortune 100 defense contractor in its gun-hardened munitions guidance system.
