Vectron International Announces Industryís Lowest Jitter VCSO

VS-709 Reduces Need for Jitter Attenuating Clock Cleaners, Offers 200 fsec Performance Improvement over Silicon-based Solutions

HUDSON, NH - Vectron International, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of Precision Frequency Control and Timing solutions, today announced its new VS-709 dual frequency Voltage Control SAW Oscillator (VCSO). As networking infrastructure equipment migrates to higher line rates, improving jitter performance is becoming a critical decision factor. Vectronís new VS-709 allows designers to begin their timing path with the lowest jitter VCSO on the market today.

"Quartz-based products continue to offer significantly better jitter performance over silicon-based solutions in many essential applications," said Alan Mond, vice president and general manager, communications business unit, Vectron. "By utilizing the VS-709, designers can avoid using digital jitter attenuator products in their timing path to clean up clocks derived from Silicon solutions, thus simplifying their PCB design, reducing the potential of additional board level noise and saving on their bill of materials costs."

Vectronís new VS-709 offers a 50 percent reduction in jitter performance compared to its predecessor, the VS-751. The VS-709 comes in a 5.0 x.7.0 x 1.8mm package and offers the best jitter performance in that footprint, achieving <120 fsec of RMS jitter over the offset bandwidth of 12kHz to 20MHz. The VS-709 is optimized for use in phase-locked loop (PLL) circuits that require superior jitter filtering in a wide range of high-speed data transmission applications such as 10GbE, 40GbE, 100GbE, OTN (Optical Transport Network), Synchronous Ethernet, and Sonet/SDH.

The VS-709 is a Voltage Controlled SAW Oscillator that operates at the fundamental frequency from one of the two internal SAW filters. The SAW filters are high-Q Quartz devices that enable the circuit to achieve low phase jitter performance over a wide operating temperature range. A divider circuit is deployed for output frequencies less than 600 MHz. The selectable dual oscillator is housed in a hermetically sealed leadless surface mount package and offered on tape and reel. It has a tri-state Frequency Select function that provides one of three conditions: Frequency 1, Output Disable, or Frequency 2.
